Mukuka Chipanta is a Zambian Aerospace engineer and award-winning author based in Connecticut. His debut novel, A Casualty of Power, published in 2016 received critical acclaim for its depiction of the cultural tensions between Chinese immigrants and indigenous workers on the Zambian copper mines.
The book won prizes for Best First Book and Gold for General College Level Book at the 2017 Classic American Literary Awards in South Dakota. A Casualty of Power was one of only nine books to be longlisted for the prestigious 9Mobile (formerly Etisalat) award for African Literature in 2018.
Mukuka’s second novel, Five Nights Before the Summit, published in 2019 is a post-colonial tale of a manhunt that ensues after the brutal killing of an elderly white couple on their farming estate on the outskirts of Lusaka.
One of Mukuka’s proudest professional achievements was playing an integral role in designing the Boeing 787 Dreamliner airplane.
