ZUKISWA WANNER

The first African woman to win the Goethe Medal, Zukiswa Wanner is a publisher, an editor, a curator and the author of two books of nonfiction, four novels and four children’s books. Her latest children’s book, “Black Pimpernel: Nelson Mandela on the Run” was published in June 2021 by Pushkin Press, UK.

She has also been published in anthologies like Surfacing: On Being Black and Feminist in South Africa and New Daughters of Africa. Wanner founded and has curated Artistic Encounters, Afrolit Sans Frontieres and Virtually Yours and is editor of Audible Originals’ Afrolit Shorts.

In 2021, she delivered the keynote for UKZN’s Time of the Writer Festival, gave the inaugural address for University of Cape Town’s Great Texts/Big Questions, was keynote speaker for Eastern African Literacy and Cultural Studies Conference at Moi University and Pitzer College’s African Students’ Association Women’s Caucus.
