Clement Abaifouta was born in 1958 in Djoumane, Chad. After obtaining a BA in 1984, he studied French for two years. He then received training in transitional justice in Morocco and France. He has produced several publications on how people living in oppressive regimes can build synergy.On 12 July 1985, Abaifouta was arrested by Documentation and Security Directorate – the secret police of Chadian President Hissène Habré. He spent four years in prison. During this time, he was forced to bury many of his colleagues who died in different prisons in N’Djamena. Clement Abafouta is the president of Victims Association of Crimes of Hissène Habré Regime (AVCRHH). The struggle took twenty-five years but in the end, they brought dictator Hissène Habre to trial and successfully we obtained a conviction. Up till now Abaifouta worries about his safety. Many members of Habre’s political police are still on trial.
