THE ILLUSION OF TRUTH By Mara Menzies
In her engaging, inimitable style, Kenyan/Scottish performance storyteller Mara Menzies explores 2 stories from both East and West African oral traditions.
The first, from ancient Ifa that travelled across the Atlantic and found a new home in the syncretic faiths in the New World. A young man obsessed with joining the ranks of deities, seizes an opportunity to appease himself to the Gods. An innocent misunderstanding leads to disastrous consequences when action is taken without full knowledge of the facts.
The second, tells the Kenyan story of how the Gikuyu women were not allowed to eat meat, but one's woman's search for truth leads her through various trials and tribulations.
