The Book Buzz Foundation is a non-governmental organisation founded by teacher and writer, Lola Shoneyin. The Board of Trustees include Ms Mojisola Adeniran and Dr Soji Adelaja.
The main aims of the Book Buzz Foundation are three fold:
- To promote literacy, especially amongst children of school-going age
- To develop reading spaces
- To organise literary and cultural events
Through our Project Inspire! initiative which takes place during the Ake Arts and Book Festival, we organise school visits so that accomplished and prominent creatives meet and interact with school children. Ake Festival guests read tho the children, share their experiences and talk to them about the importance of reading and writing. The children are truly inspired by these visits but Ake Festival guests have found it to be a valuable experience.
BBF supports schools in the creation of reading spaces and libraries, using innovative and affordable means to achieve this so that children have access to books. We work with a range of local and international publishers to ensure that the children have appropriate the books that are well presented and well written.
We organise a yearly festival of Arts and books called the Ake Arts and Book Festival. This is a six day festival that celebrates books and other interconnected facets of the arts. The festival features master classes and workshops in various aspects of performance art, visual art, drama, fashion, music, film, dance and writing.
The Ake Arts and Book Festival is organised by Book Buzz Foundation, Nigeria.
